What Is A Sugar Glider?
Sugar Gliders make great pets and are very adorable. These little creatures have become very popular in The US and Europe, and because they bond very well with humans and can live for up to 12- 15 years, purchasing one has become relatively easy. But what exactly is a Sugar Glider.
Who Am I??
A Sugar Glider is a very small Gliding Marsupial and is native to the north and east of Australia, The Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and also introduced into Tasmania.
They Are also commonly known as Sugar Bears and Honey Gliders (due to their love for sweet foods) and can glide through the air like Flying Squirrels, from 50-150 meters. They are most commonly found in forests with Eucalyptus tress and like to hunt for insects, small vertebrates or suck the sap off certain trees.
Sugar Gliders are nocturnal and sleep in a nest during the day, normally sharing the nest with up to 7 adults and any new born. Males are larger than females and can grow to 12 inches long. They have 5 digit fingers with claws, except on the hind-feet toe. Unlike many of Australia’s animals, the Sugar Glider is not endangered.
