About Sugar Gliders

Sugar Glider Guide- Before You Buy

First things first, before you buy a Sugar Glider, you need to ask yourself, am I ready or do I have the time to devote my full attention to this animal. Here are some facts you need to take in to account.

The Cost.

Always take in to account, yes the price of the Sugar Glider (from $150-300) but also the extras. Like any pet, there are always extras like cages, toys, food , vets etc.

Sugar gliders should really be kept in a pair, but money is a problem and most can not afford two.

It is also possible to adopt an animal ( unwanted presents, animal shelters etc) so it’s worth checking out. But bonding with the Sugar Glider is important so acquiring the animal at a young age is vital.

Bonding

Yes, Sugar Gliders need plenty of human interaction. Like any dog or cat, they basically need the same attention, even more. When you buy one as a baby, and for them to become the friendliest of companions, Glider babies need to be handled daily, as soon as they emerge from the pouch.

As soon as you bring one home, babies will easily start bonding with it’s new owner, one of its highest qualities. As a few months go by, the bond gets stronger as does the need for attention, so you need to be prepared to really look after and devote time. if a few days go by with out any human interaction, Sugar Gliders are prone to depression.

As I said, Sugar Gliders should really have another companion. No matter how much time You spend, you cannot replace the friendship of another glider. A lot of the time you may not be there, and leaving a Glider in solitude can be upsetting for the animal.

If left alone, they can become depressed, defensive, withdrawn, stop eaten and die of loneliness, which is one of the reasons why they die so soon. Get as much help as you can and acquire the correct knowledge, click here to get the Right guide to help you.

Not For Children

I highly recommend, NOT buying a Sugar Glider for a child. As we have said, they require a ton of attention and proper care, and as children have a tendency to get bored real easy, it’s better to leave it to a grown adult with the intention of shown a lot of constant love.

Also, Sugar Gliders do not mix with other pets, so that should be another reason to consider before you buy  a Sugar Glider.

Ask Yourself……..

Yes, before you buy, ask yourself these questions considering a Sugar Glider can live for up to 15 years.

- Can I afford it?

- Do I have the right space in my house or apartment?

- Can I provide the right accessories for my Glider? (cage, food etc)

- Do I have enough time right now to consistently look after this animal.

- If I have existing pets, how will they react?

- Are any of the people I live with( if any) allergic to fur?

- Do I have an idea of what I am doing or the right guide?
