Sugar Glider Stores
If you are considering getting one of these exotic and intriguing pets then you will want to know where to buy sugar glider accessories so that you can be prepared to house your new pet, and to provide them with all their basic needs, as well as some of the things they will enjoy. So where do you find Sugar Glider Stores and related glider items?
One of the major concerns for anyone that is considering the purchase of these animals as pets is to find a veterinarian that can handle the illnesses and common problems these exotic animals may have. You need to know where you will take them if they get ill before you bring them home. Remember that the average life span for these creatures is over twelve years and closer to fifteen years, so you are going to need to put some consideration into how you will maintain their health for a long time.
You also need to talk to the veterinarian and to the sugar glider stores in your area to help you locate where to buy sugar glider supplies so that you will know exactly what accessories are appropriate for them. Make notes of the sizes of cages that are recommended, and how many gliders you can house in each cage. Ask questions about having two animals of the same sex in one cage, or if you get a male and female what are the chances that you are going to have little Joeys in the future.
Sugar gliders cages should be taller than they are wide. Tall slender cages are more appropriate than the more square or rectangle looking versions.
Before you do purchase the pets get the cages for sugar gliders set up in the room where you most want to house them. You also want to make certain that you have a hanging feeder in the cage like the ones that go in bird’s cages for their seeds. For their drinking requirements you are going to need to get them a water bottle like the water bottles that small rodents and hamsters drink out of. You do not need a really large bottle like the ones you get for a rabbit because you need to give fresh water every day anyway. If the water container is too large fungus will grow in the bottle quicker and the animals will not want to drink from a green and nasty water bottle.
You need to place branches in the cage so that the animals can climb as some of the sugar gliders accessories. (You can find these at sugar gliders stores in your area, or order some through your local pet supply store.) Their natural instincts tell them to go to the upper most branches of the tallest available trees to nest, so you want them to have branches in their cage that they can climb. You will also want to give them a length of rope that dangles from the top of their cage. They can also climb the rope but it is more difficult for them to climb than the branches are, so this provides them more exercise, and gives them something to occupy their minds. Bored animals are not great pets, they need things that will occupy their time and use up some of their energy.
An exercise wheel like you see in a hamster cage is a great way to give these animals a little extra exercise. They will run on the wheel just like the hamsters do and they seem to enjoy doing this. Remember that these are social creatures and you do not want just one of them, you at least want a pair of them. In the wild they live in groups consisting of around seven adults and the young Joeys that are born that year so do not get a solitary sugar bear, or they will be very lonely and depressed.
You have to provide the animals with a sleeping pouch that they can curl up in during the day. This should not be the same pouch that you use for the bonding pouch. You do not want to remove their sleeping pouch from their cage at all, so check into either sewing a couple of pouches or purchasing a couple of them.
